Have you ever had to deal with bullying growing up or have a child that is being bullied? I don’t think schools take bullying as seriously as they say they do because it still happens every single day. When I was in grade school I was bullied and made fun of. Coming from a family that didn’t have much I didn’t get to have the newest shoes or the coolest bookbag. In my school, we had to wear a uniform which I thought was cool until kids started picking on me because I wore Sketchers or Walmart brand shoes instead of the latest Nikes, Converses or even Vans. I had students every day get in my face to laugh at me and call me poor. When did kids get so disrespectful and rude to one another? I liked that we had to wear uniforms unlike I think it’s important for children to be able to express themselves on how they dress (of course in a modest way). Most families now and days have to work two jobs just to making a living for them and their families. Clothes are not cheap and you see a lot of kids wear hand me down clothes. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but kids tend to pick more on those who can’t afford new clothes like I did growing up. I cried to my father so many times because I felt so bad about myself thinking it was my fault the way I dressed. I look back now and I might have to deal with those who bullied, harassed, and even picked on me because of the clothes and shoes I wore but for me, I think it helped me learn that I’m grateful for the little things in life. I had a depressing childhood but this is something I take as a life lesson as I believe we should be teaching our kids about being grateful and loving those around us, rich or poor.
